Award<\/b> is an initiative of <b>DSCH \u2013 Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Musical<\/b>, aimed at encouraging and promoting excellence in contemporary Portuguese art music.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Prize was established with the aim of recognizing, encouraging, and promoting contemporary Portuguese art music, and is intended to honor both the work and the distinguished career of a leading Portuguese composer, regardless of age.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Originally awarded every two years, the Prize became an annual award in 2023. It includes not only artistic recognition but also a monetary prize and the commission of a new musical work from the honored composer, which is subsequently premiered in a concert setting in Portugal.<\/span><\/p><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The laureates reflect the diversity and excellence of contemporary Portuguese musical creation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p class=\"translation-block\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Lu\u00eds Tinoco<\/b> was the first composer to receive the Prize (2019 edition) \u2013 recognized both in Portugal and internationally for his chamber, orchestral, and vocal works, which have been performed in various countries. Carrapatoso then composed <i>\"Quartet for a New Time\"<\/i>, which was premiered at the Sony Auditorium in Madrid by the DSCH \u2013 Shostakovich Ensemble.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"translation-block\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The composer <b>Andreia Pinto Correia<\/b> was awarded the Prize in 2023, a recognition that also highlighted the significance of Portuguese female composers on the international contemporary music scene.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Na edi\u00e7\u00e3o de 2024, o distinguido foi <strong>S\u00e9rgio Azevedo<\/strong> \u2013 um compositor com <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">destacada<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> traject\u00f3ria criativa e pedag\u00f3gica, com obras interpretadas por numerosos int\u00e9rpretes de destaque. Al\u00e9m da distin\u00e7\u00e3o art\u00edstica, o pr\u00e9mio incluiu a encomenda da obra \u201cSonatina giocosa\u201d para contrabaixo solo, estreada por Tiago Pinto-Ribeiro no Festival de M\u00fasica dos Capuchos, em Almada.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"translation-block\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In 2025, the laureate was <b>Carlos Azevedo<\/b> \u2013 composer, arranger, pianist, and pedagogue, with a unique creative career that masterfully spans both classical and jazz music, in a continual dialogue between tradition, innovation, and improvisation.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"translation-block\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <b>DSCH Composition Prize<\/b> is awarded by the prestigious DSCH \u2013 Shostakovich Ensemble, under the artistic direction of <b>Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro<\/b>.
