Festival & Academia VERÃO CLÁSSICO 2025 | 10ª edição

The 2024 VERÃO CLÁSSICO Festival will present concerts and masterclasses from 22 July to 3 August in Lisbon, featuring major works from the musical repertoire of the 18th to the 21st centuries. The programme includes four MasterFest concerts, with the participation of outstanding musicians—internationally renowned references on their instruments—as well as several TalentFest concerts, showcasing young musicians taking part in the VERÃO CLÁSSICO Masterclasses, who are nationally and/or internationally award-winning.

Founded in 2015, the VERÃO CLÁSSICO Festival and Academy is an initiative that annually presents concerts and masterclasses in Lisbon and has been recognized by both national and international press as one of the world’s leading festivals and academies.

The VERÃO CLÁSSICO Masterclasses are aimed at music students and teachers. In the 2023 edition, around 200 young musicians, Portuguese and international, took part, coming from countries such as Germany, Austria, Armenia, Belgium, Canada, China, South Korea, Croatia, Denmark, Spain, the USA, France, Georgia, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, North Macedonia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Romania, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, and Venezuela.

In this 10th edition, the VERÃO CLÁSSICO Festival will feature musicians of worldwide reputation, from renowned conservatories and universities such as Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Salzburg, Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich, Madrid, and Copenhagen, as well as from leading orchestras, including soloists from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, and the Orchestre National de France.

VERÃO CLÁSSICO professors will lead masterclasses in musical technique and interpretation, held simultaneously in several rooms of the Artistic School of Music of the National Conservatory / Marquês de Pombal Secondary School, where practice and rehearsal rooms will be available for the participating young musicians.

All masterclass participants are eligible for the VERÃO CLÁSSICO Prizes, judged by the faculty. These prizes, awarded in the form of concert engagements within music seasons held in Portugal, play an important role in encouraging and recognizing the talent and work developed during VERÃO CLÁSSICO. Some prize-winning young musicians from previous editions have already had the opportunity to perform as soloists this season with Portugal’s three regional orchestras—the Orquestra do Norte, Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras, and Orquestra Clássica do Sul—as well as at international music festivals.

The VERÃO CLÁSSICO Festival & Academy thus promotes the training and public presentation of young talents, encouraging and supporting them in building their careers, while simultaneously fostering cultural exchange among participants of different nationalities. For Portuguese students, it offers—within their own country—a platform for developing their artistic level and an exceptional opportunity to learn from the most prestigious international professors, world-leading references on their instruments.

The educational axis of VERÃO CLÁSSICO is complemented by the performance axis, embodied in the Music Festival, which throughout the event presents concerts in Lisbon featuring major works from the 18th to the 21st centuries: four MasterFest concerts, with the participation of the musicians/professors, and six TalentFest concerts, featuring VERÃO CLÁSSICO young musicians who are nationally and/or internationally award-winning.

The VERÃO CLÁSSICO Festival & Academy positions itself as a unique artistic and pedagogical initiative in Portugal, a cultural project of excellence open to all audiences.
