Founded in 2009, the DSCH – Associação Musical is a cultural association whose mission is artistic training, the study and deepening of musical interpretation, and the promotion of musical culture, particularly through the organization of concerts, festivals, and publications. It also aims to promote educational activities, such as masterclasses, workshops and conferences.
Since its foundation, the DSCH – Associação Musical has actively promoted the work of the DSCH – Shostakovich Ensemble, widely regarded as one of the leading ensembles on the international music scene. The ensemble has performed in Portugal (including Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Bragança, Viseu, Faro, Portimão, Seixal, Matosinhos, Almada, Vila Nova de Gaia, Évora, among others) as well as in numerous countries worldwide, such as Germany, France, Sweden, Estonia, Russia, Spain, Belgium, the United States of America, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Australia, and others.
It has also organised several concert series and festivals, most notably the Festival de Música dos Capuchos in Almada, the Festival & Academia Verão Clássico in Lisbon, the Bragança ClassicFest – International Music Festival, and the Musical-Mente Concert Series in Porto.
DSCH – Associação Musical has been responsible for several recordings and for commissioning works from composers such as Luís Tinoco, Eurico Carrapatoso, Marcelo Nisinman, and Bruce Adolphe.
In 2018, DSCH – Associação Musical established the DSCH – Shostakovich Ensemble Composition Prize, which aims to recognize, encourage, and promote contemporary Portuguese art music. The prize is awarded to honor both the work and the distinguished career of a leading Portuguese composer.
In 2022, the DSCH – Associação Musical founded the Juventus Ensemble, a chamber music project whose aim is to become a creative platform and a catalyst for opportunities for young musicians of recognised talent.
The DSCH – Associação Musical is under the artistic direction of Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro and is a structure funded by the Ministry of Culture / Directorate-General for the Arts.
