Drawing its name from the Roman goddess of youth, Juventas, the Juventus Ensemble (JuvE) is a musical project whose primary aim is to serve as a creative platform and a catalyst for opportunities for young musicians of recognized talent.
Founded in 2022 by Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, the Juventus Ensemble made its debut in Bragança at the Church of São Francisco, as part of the 2nd Bragança ClassicFest Festival, performing works by Eurico Carrapatoso and Antonín Dvořák.
A musical ensemble of flexible instrumentation, the Juventus Ensemble has promoted concerts and artistic residencies in collaboration with world-renowned artists—such as Pascal Moraguès, Jack Liebeck, Stephan Picard, and Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro—exploring a repertoire spanning diverse periods and musical styles, with the aim of welcoming and fostering the finest emerging talents on the musical scene.
Among the young musicians who have performed with the Juventus Ensemble are violinists Arieta Liatsi, Amia Janicki, Xunyue Zhang, Alfonso Pinto-Ribeiro, Filipe Fernandes, Mălina Ciobanu, Tomás Soares, and Laura Handler; violists Francisco Lourenço, Sofia Silva Sousa, Jiliang Shi, João Álvares Abreu, and Gustavo Rebelo; cellists Geirthrudur Gudmundsdottir, João Pedro Gonçalves, Beatriz Raimundo, Leonardo Petracci, Guilherme Moraes, Sofía Torres, and Pedro Gomes da Silva; double bassist Rui Pedro Rodrigues; harpsichordist Rafaela Salgado; oboist Luísa Bandeira; clarinetists Telmo Costa and João Paiva; trumpeter Luís Duarte Moreira; and flutist Sónia Pais.
In February 2023, the Juventus Ensemble presented the world premiere of Dreaming and Thinking, a Sextet by American composer Bruce Adolphe, as part of the 2nd Musical-Mind Cycle at the Monastery of São Bento da Vitória. Later that same year, the Juventus Ensemble made its international debut with two concerts at the Festival de Musique de Prémery in France.
The Juventus Ensemble is under the artistic direction of Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro and is supported by the Directorate-General for the Arts of the Ministry of Culture.
