Festival & Academy VERÃO CLÁSSICO 2022 | 8ª edição

Artistic Director: Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro

The 8th edition of the VERÃO CLÁSSICO Festival and Academy will take place from August 1 to August 13, 2022, in Lisbon. It will feature concerts and Masterclasses with the participation of musicians and teachers from some of the most prestigious international institutions and soloists from leading orchestras worldwide.

The VERÃO CLÁSSICO Masterclasses are aimed at music students, teachers, and professional musicians. In the 2021 edition, approximately 200 young musicians from over 20 countries participated, including Portugal, Denmark, Poland, the Netherlands, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Latvia, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, China, the USA, Israel, Brazil, Luxembourg, Romania, Chile, Hungary, Belgium, Austria, Moldova, and South Korea.

For 2022, world-renowned professors have already been confirmed, coming from prestigious conservatories and universities in Berlin, Paris, Oslo, Lausanne, Brussels, Cologne, Strasbourg, Lucerne, and Madrid, as well as from top-tier orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Paris Orchestra, and the National Orchestra of France.

The VERÃO CLÁSSICO professors will lead Masterclasses on technique and musical interpretation, running simultaneously in multiple rooms at the Escola Secundária Marquês de Pombal / Escola Artística de Música do Conservatório Nacional (Rua Alexandre de Sá Pinto, 85, 1349-003 Lisbon), where practice and rehearsal spaces will also be available for participating young musicians.

All masterclass participants are eligible for the VERÃO CLÁSSICO Prizes, judged by the faculty. These prizes, awarded in the form of concert engagements within music seasons held in Portugal, play an important role in encouraging and recognizing the talent and work developed by participants during VERÃO CLÁSSICO. Some prize-winning young musicians from previous editions have already had the opportunity to perform as soloists with Portugal’s three regional orchestras—the Orquestra do Norte, Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras, and Orquestra Clássica do Sul—as well as at international music festivals.

The VERÃO CLÁSSICO – Lisbon International Music Academy thus promotes the training and public presentation of young talents, encouraging and supporting them in building their careers, while simultaneously fostering cultural exchange among participants of different nationalities. For Portuguese students, it offers—within their own country—a platform for developing their artistic level and an exceptional opportunity to learn from the most prestigious international professors, world-leading references on their instruments.

The educational axis of VERÃO CLÁSSICO is complemented by the performance axis, embodied in the Music Festival, which will feature concerts in Lisbon throughout the festival, presenting major works from the 18th to the 21st centuries: four MasterFest concerts with the participation of the professors/musicians, and six TalentFest concerts, featuring young VERÃO CLÁSSICO musicians who are already nationally and/or internationally award-winning

Founded in 2015, the VERÃO CLÁSSICO Festival and Academy is a unique artistic and pedagogical initiative in Portugal, a project of cultural excellence open to all audiences.
